Let's talk about talking!

It has been a busy summer for us, but we have definitely taken time to slow down and rest.

There have been a few lessons I have learned and think it might be a good idea to throw them out there to parents and students while there is still summertime left to think about it.

Let's talk about communication skills.

The ability to communicate is what makes us different from all other animals. Sure, some forms of life have a smaller vocab or way of communicating, but humans can talk for days and days.

But do we?  In this instant messaging, texting, emailing world, do we really communicate?

In the coming weeks, I encourage you to slow down and talk with, really discuss things, with your parents and children.  The ability to focus on a conversation, carry a train of thought, maintain tone, fluency of idea and determine the best way to convey concepts are all very complicated tasks.

This processing practice will help you learn something new about someone in your life, and it will help improve the ability to gain, store and retrieve information when school starts again.

Not bad?

Don't Let Your Child be Left Behind!

Do you have a child you fear will be "left behind"?

The No Child Left Behind has helped students who are significantly disabled. What about the child who is successful in one area but struggles in another? What about the child who is having their self-esteem battered because they "just don't get it"...

These are the students I love working with and helping them to find their place.
